Case Review Officer - Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner

(Full Time Excluded Position)

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly, reporting annually to the Legislative Assembly. The office has a broad range of responsibilities and powers as provided for in the Freedom of
Information and Protection of Privacy Act. We are seeking a Case Review Officer. Reporting to the Commissioner, you will be responsible to support the Commissioner in the fulfillment of her mandate under the Freedom of Information and Protection of
Privacy Act and future Health Information Act.

To qualify you will have:
• a completed degree from a recognized university;
• superior written and verbal communication skills;
• highly developed analytical and research skills;
• aptitude for detail and accuracy;
• proven experience and proven ability in working with a team;
• demonstrated experience working in a highly confidential environment;
• proven experience in managing a heavy workload in a deadline driven environment;  
• competency in Microsoft Office;
• experience working in the field of access to information and protection of privacy (an asset); and
• proficiency communicating in the French language (an asset).

You will demonstrate the ability to:
• Respond to inquiries relating to access reviews, privacy complaints and privacy breaches.
• Provide guidance to public bodies and health custodians regarding privacy breach management.
• Assist in the resolution of access reviews and privacy complaints by researching  and analyzing legislation, case law, regulations, reports and decisions from Information and Privacy Commissioners, as well as policies and practices relevant to complaints and reviews.
• Informally resolve access and privacy issues through better defining and/or clarifying the request, and consulting with the parties involved.
• Aid in investigations and reviews, by developing comprehensive reports, and analytical summaries of the status of reviews for the Information and Privacy Commissioner and, when requested, provide opinions regarding the statutory exemptions at issue.
• Provide guidance to administrative support in the office, taking into account that the Commissioner’s position is not full-time.
• Contribute to the development of annual reports, and other office publications.
• Facilitate the public communications mandate of the Office.
• Effectively adhere to the office file review system by recording the status of reviews and privacy investigations, while prioritizing other responsibilities and duties in a team environment.
• Assist with administrative functions.
