Alan McIsaac was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the provincial general election of 2007 in District 5, Vernon River-Stratford, and was re-elected in both 2011 and the recent May 4, 2015, provincial general elections.
Mr. McIsaac served as a member of Treasury Board since 2009. He also served as chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environment, Energy and Forestry and was a member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries, Transportation and Rural Development, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Standing Committee on Education and Innovation. After re-election in October 2011, Mr. McIsaac was appointed Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development; and Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General. In November 2011, after departmental restructuring, he was appointed Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. Mr. McIsaac is currently the vice-chair of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC).
Mr. McIsaac was a dairy farmer and small business operator. He has held many leadership roles in the dairy industry at the provincial, regional, and national levels for over 32 years, including chairing the Provincial Milk Marketing Board and as the Atlantic Canada Director on the Board of Holstein Canada. He also served on the executive of the Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture.
Alan has been very active in his church and his community. He has coached hockey and baseball and served on the Board of directors of the local Fire Department. He has also served on the Home and School Association at Glen Stewart and Charlottetown Rural High School.
He and his wife Joanne reside in Mermaid. They have four sons, Andrew (Martine), Joshua (Faith), Stephen and Michael (Emily).
