James Aylward was first elected MLA for District 6, Stratford - Kinlock, in 2011 and re-elected in the 2015 Provincial general election.

James was raised in Sherwood and proudly lives in Stratford with his wife Cece, son Connor and father Bill. Prior to being elected James worked in the tourism and hospitality industry on Prince Edward Island and in Alberta.

James has served as a board member of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Holland College Advisory Committee, Chaired the Queens County Relay for Life for five years, and volunteered with the Terry Fox Foundation, Camp Gencheff, the Liturgical Ministries at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Habitat for Humanity, the Upper Room Food Bank, the Parkdale/Sherwood Lions Club, the Stratford Rotary Club and Stratford Citizens on Patrol.

Since being elected James has served on numerous legislative committees, including the Standing Committee on Health and Wellness, the Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations, Private Bills, and Privileges, and the Legislative Management Committee. James has served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Opposition House Leader and has held several Shadow Critic roles, including Health and Wellness and Education.

James was elected leader of the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative party on October 20th, 2017, becoming Leader of the Official Opposition. He resigned as party leader on September 17, 2018, but continues as Leader of the Official Opposition in the legislature until the next provincial general election.
