Employment Opportunity: Hansard Manager

The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island is currently seeking applications for the full-time permanent position of Hansard Manager.

Reporting to the Deputy Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, the Hansard Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely publication of the transcripts of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island’s proceedings, including House sittings and committee meetings. Serving as the lead editor for all publications, the Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and supervision of all office activities, including transcription, proofreading, research, and publishing. The role requires significant flexibility, as overtime and extended hours into the evenings may be necessary, especially when the Legislative Assembly is in session.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of Hansard production, ensuring the accurate editing of documents such as Daily Hansard, Oral Question Period, and committee transcripts, while adhering to the Hansard style guidelines and Legislative Assembly practices. Ensure all transcripts are completed within established deadlines.
• Oversee the coordination of Hansard Office staff, including scheduling shifts, assigning tasks, and ensuring that production timelines are consistently met.
• Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training of both new and returning staff members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
• Coordinate and manage special projects within the Hansard Office.
• Collaborate with other staff members of the Legislative Assembly on various assignments and initiatives.
• Engage with Hansard Offices in other Canadian and Commonwealth jurisdictions to discuss policies, services, and emerging technologies.
   

Qualifications (Required)

• A post-secondary degree in a related field, or a suitable combination of education, skills, and experience, with a strong emphasis on writing and editing.
• Extensive professional experience in writing, editing, and transcribing, with a deep understanding of English grammar, punctuation, and commonly used national style guides.
• Proven ability to transcribe and edit audio recordings of legislative proceedings and committee hearings into accurate written records.
• Leadership experience in an office environment, with strong organizational, logistical, and time management skills.
• Adaptable, with the ability to thrive under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards and managing multiple tasks.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster positive working relationships and lead teams effectively.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently while demonstrating tact, foresight, integrity, and good judgment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, production software, and web editing and publishing tools.
• Familiarity with parliamentary procedures, legislative terminology, and Sliq software is considered an asset.
• Experience in a parliamentary setting and knowledge of local dialects and culture is a plus.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Experience in transcribing or editing within a parliamentary or legislative setting.
• Familiarity with parliamentary procedures, legislative terminology, and formal language.
• Strong command of the English language; knowledge of local dialects, jargon, and culture is an asset.
• Experience using Sliq software or similar transcription/production systems.
   

Position Requirements

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Must be, and remain, politically non-partisan, both in perception and fact.
• Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and outside of standard office hours, as required.

Compensation

• $30.89 - $36.77 per hour (Excluded Level 14)
• health, dental, and pension benefits.

Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
