This non-partisan, statutory officer of the Legislative Assembly administers both the Ombudsperson Act and the Public Interest Disclosure and Whistleblower Protection Act. The office plays a vital role in promoting fairness and accountability by investigating citizen complaints and allegations of wrongdoing or reprisal within provincial public services.
Qualifications and Experience
This role requires a highly credible leader with experience managing high profile issues, a history of exercising sound judgment and a talent for developing collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders. A reputation for impartiality and integrity is key to success in this role. Successful candidates must possess:
a degree in law, public administration, or related discipline.
significant experience in administrative law, legislative interpretation, conflict resolution, and investigations within a legal framework.
senior leadership experience, including managing financial and human resources.
experience in public outreach and education for diverse stakeholders.
proven ability to motivate and lead teams and set strategic direction for long-term success.
spoken competence in French and English is considered an asset.
Term of Appointment
The Ombudsperson and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner will hold office for a term of five years and may be reappointed for an additional five-year term. The appointment is authorized by motion of the Legislative Assembly upon the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Legislative Assembly Management.
Compensation
$157,477.87 – $202,629.86
