Province House Grand Reopening
The restoration and conservation are finished and Province House is reopening this fall. Come help us celebrate!
The Honorable Brad Trivers, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, is pleased to welcome Islanders to an open house to see inside historic Province House, celebrated home of their provincial legislature and site of the 1864 talks that led to Canadian confederation.
“Islanders are excited about the reopening of this historic building, the permanent home of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island,” said Speaker Brad Trivers. “We look forward to celebrating the return of our provincial parliament to this historic building to continue its democratic work for Islanders in its traditional home.”

175th Anniversary of Responsible Government Lecture
As this year also marks the 175th anniversary of Responsible Government in Prince Edward Island, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly is hosting a commemorative lecture series looking back to 1851, when the executive level of government, which had previously been appointed as representatives of British rule, became responsible to the locally elected House of Assembly.
The first lecture will be held at Province House as part of the Open House.
At 2:00 pm, in the 1st floor theatre at Province House, Brian Willis will discuss the conservation of Province House National Historic Site.
Willis has been involved with the Province House Conservation Project since 2017, serving as construction site superintendent and heritage conservation specialist before stepping into the role of onsite project manager.
Registration for the lecture
Registration is strongly encouraged to ensure a seat. Remaining seats available on the day will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
