For further details of Bill No. 129, the promoter of the bill, upon introduction to the Legislative Assembly, provided the following overview (November 22, 2022):
“This bill ensures that all staff working in childcare centres will be required to have a vulnerable sector check, and it also clarifies that people who do not work in childcare centres while children are present are not expected to get that same check. This moves the provisions currently in regulation into the legislation. The intent of this bill is to ensure that youngest Islanders are protected, in consultation with the Child and Youth Advocate.”

Archived page update
This consultation closed on February 15, 2023, which was followed by the dissolution of the legislature for a provincial election held April 3, 2023. The dissolution of the legislature halts all unfinished business, including the work of committees, to allow the newly-elected representatives to bring forward new business, so there is no report of the committee to the legislature.
