Province House Grand Reopening Events
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, October 7, 2026 – The Honourable Brad Trivers, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, is pleased to announce that the Office of the Legislative Assembly received the keys for Province House on Friday, October 2, 2026. Reaching this exciting milestone following 12 years of building conservation means preparations continue for the fall sitting of the legislature with the goal of ensuring the sitting proceeds in the restored chamber in Province House.
Province House was built as the permanent home of the Legislative Assembly, which first met in the Legislative Chamber in 1847. The last sitting day prior to the start of the restoration project was November 27, 2014.
“We know that Islanders are eager to visit historic Province House, and staff are working hard to ensure the move back into the building is as smooth as possible,” said Honourable Brad Trivers, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. “While this transition is happening, the building remains closed to the public until the grand reopening to ensure safety and allow for final preparations to support our modern provincial parliament.”
